Describe the Sanger-Coulson dideoxy method.
1)Denature DNA duplex to get the template strand.
2)Add primer that is complementary to the 3' end of the template DNA
3)Add DNA Polymerase, dNTPs, ddNTPs (w/ colored dyes)
4)Run Gel electrophresis
What are Genomic libraries?
the total DNA extraced from nuclei and contains all of the DNA sequences of the species.
What are cDNA libraries?
Produced from mRNA present in a particular cell type and thus corresponds to the genes that are active in that type of cell
How do you identify the gene?
Add transcription factors, presences of mRNA confirms presence of the gene.
What is transcriptomics?
The study of mRNA expression levels.
How do you identify gene expression? Explain this process.
DNA microarray
1)take two samples of cells growing in different mediums.
2)mRNA is extracted from each sample and converted to cDNA w/ dye
3)cDNA is added to gene chip

cDNA that hybridize to the chip DNA cause that spot to grow.

(Note could have lots of possible errors)
What is proteomics?
the study of proteins, particularly their structure and formation.
