What are tissues? What are the 4 kinds of tissue?

Tissues are the building blocks for human body. The 4 kinds are epithelial, nervous, muscular, and connective.

What is epithelial tissue?
|
This lines most body surfaces, and protects other tissues from dehydration

Describe the three types of muscle tissue
|
Smooth - not striated in appearance, involuntary.
Cardiac - striated, involuntary, only in heart Striated - voluntary muscles |

|
Periosteum - outer covering
Spongy bone - contains red marrow Compact bone - the hard part Epiphysis - rounded end of bones |

Actin and myosin

What are tendons? What are ligaments?
|
Tendons connect muscle to bone. Ligaments connect bone to bone.

Hinge - allows for bending and straightening Ball and Socket - allows greatest range |

What is the Integumentary system? What is its purpose?
|
This contains skin. It protects the body against pathogens and regulates body temperature.

Describe the Epidermis
|
This is the outer layer of skin and is as thick as a single sheet of paper. It is water proof and cells are replaced every 30 days.
