Cellular Respiration

Aerobic pathway during which glucose is completely broken down to CO2 and H2O

NAD+ & FAD+

becomes NADH and FADH2- in the absense of oxygen.

Glycolysis

The break down of glucose to two molecules of pyruvate, is a series of enzymatic reactions that occurs in the cytoplasm and is anaerobic.

What does glycolysis do

Releases enough engergy to give a net gain of two ATP and two NADH

Fermentation

Involves gltcolysis followed by the reduction of pyruvate by NADH either to lactate or to alcohol and carbon dioxide.

What does fermentation do

Frees NAD+ so that it can accept more hydrogen atoms from gylcolysis
