6 properties of water
Cohesion, solvent, high specific heat capasity, lubricant, transparent, greatest density at 4*
Cohesion
When water particles stick together, lets it be sucked up through tubes.
Solvent
Is dissociating other elements, water is used as a solvent when we wash our hands, it dissolves dirt and grime.
High specific heat capasity
Means that it takes alot of of energy to heat up or cool down. ( helps ectothermic animals maintain body heat)
Lubricant
When pressed between 2 objects creates a barrier which lets objects slide past eachother.
Transparent
Means you can see through the matter (see fish in a tank)
Greatest density at 4 degrees
The way the h bonds change as water molecules freeze allows the molecules to be closest together at 4 degrees.
Dehydration synthesis
When smaller molecules are combined, water is often a project.
Hydrolysis
The reverse of de hydrolysis, involving the addition of of water.
Lipid
Fats, oils, fatty acids, glycerol
Proteins
Enzymes, antibodies, transport proteins and hemoglobin
Nucleic acid
Ribonucleic acid and deoxyribonucleic acid
Organic vs inorganic
Organic contains carbon inorganic has OH
Carbohydrate
Bread, pasta, sugar, glucose.
Polysaccharides
A large molecule consisting of a bunch of monosaccharides put together. Starch, cellulose, glycogen.
Peptide bond
The bond that holds two or more amino acids together.
