What are the 4 classes of life’s large biomolecules? Which of these are polymers?

What is a polymer? What is a condensation reaction? What is hydrolysis?
A polymer is a long molecule consisting of many similar building blocks
These small building-block molecules are called monomers
Polymers are assembled from monomer sub units by a process called condensation
A condensation reaction (aka dehydration reaction) occurs when two monomers bond together through the loss of a water molecule.
Polymers are disassembled to monomers by hydrolysis, a reaction that is the reverse of the dehydration reaction (uses up a water molecule).
What are polymers of sugar called?
Carbohydrates include sugars and the polymers of sugar (like starch)
What is a monosaccharide? What is the most common monosaccharide and what is its chemical formula?
Monosaccharide is the simplest carbohydrate
Glucose (C6H12O6) is the most common monosaccharide
What is a disaccharide? Be able to give an example.
A disaccharide is formed when a dehydration reaction joins two monosaccharides into a short polymer.
This covalent bond is called a glycosidic linkage

What is the difference between ketose and aldose sugars?
Location of the C=O. Aldoses has them at the end and also have a H+ attached to it. Ketose is one middle (one off from the edge C) and doesn't have a H+ attached to it.
