what are the 4 tissue types?

epthelial

muscle

connective

nervous

what are the 2 epithelial tissue types

SQUAMOUS- SCALE SHAPED

cuboidal epithelial tissue

boxy, cube shaped cells found in kidney tubules, ducts of glands, helps in secretion and absorption

Stratified cuboidal epithelium

less common. sweat glands, mammary glands

columnar epithelium

long, tall column shaped cells. Nucleus found at base of cells

simple columnar epithelium

single layer of cells. stomach to anus, simple, non ciliated

pseudostratified columnar

appears to have multiple layers. Ciliated in trachea & respiratory tract

goblet cells

single cell glands that produce mucous

how are epithelial cells held together

cellular junctions

name 3 junctions and their characteristics

tight- leak proof barrier, hold epithelial tissue together

gap- connect cytoplasm of adjoining cells

adhering- connecting/glueing cells together

exocrine glands

have ducts or tubes, releases things outside of itself, salivary, sweat

endocrine

releases inside. no ducts/opening to outside i.e. adrenal glands, testes, ovaries
