What is the ampulla of Vater?
small opening in the duodenum in which the pancreatic and common bile duct enter to release secretions

What is Cholecystokinin?
hormone secreted into the blood by the mucosa of the upper small intestine which stimulates contraction of the gallbladder and pancreatic secretion of enzymes
Describe the location of the common bile duct.
It extends from the point where the common hepatic duct meets the cystic duct; drains into the duodenum after it joins with the main pancreatic duct

It connects the gallbladder to the common hepatic .duct
What is Hartmann's Pouch?
It is a small outpouching in the area of the GB neck that lies near the cystic duct where stones may collect.
What are the spiral valves of Heister?
They are tiny valves (mucosal folds) found within the cystic duct.
What is Murphy's Sign?
A positive sign implies exquisite tenderness over the area of the gallbladder upon palpation.
What is a Phrygian Cap?
A gallbladder variant in which part of the fundus is bent back on itself.
Describe the location of the pancreatic duct.
It travels horizontally through the pancreas to join the common bile duct at the ampulla of vater.
What is choledocholithiasis?
A stone(s) in the bile duct(s).
What is cholelithiasis?
A gallstone(S) in the gallbladder.

A central area of the liver where the portal vein, common duct and the hepatic artery transverse.

A small muscle that guards the ampulla of Vater (regulates the flow of bile).
