Describe Focal Epithelial Hyperplasia?
Caused by HPV 13 and 32 - multiple soft non-tender papules that can cluster together to give a cobblestone appearance. Usually normal in colou, found on labial buccal and lingual mucosa.
What is the histology of Focal Epithelial Hyperplasia?
Broad club-shaped rete ridges, with later fusion. Mitosoid bodies.
What is the treatment for Focal Epithelial Hyperplasia?
Often spontaneous regression, but simple surgical excision for diagnostic/aesthetic purposes.
Describe Squamous Papilloma?
Most common benign epithelial neoplasm seen intraorally. Solitary lesion typically found on soft palate/uvula or tongue.

Finger like fronds, usually pedunculated. Range of colours (red to white)
What is the histology of Squamous Papilloma?
Orthokeratinized or parakeratinised. Papillary proliferation of surface epithelium. Finger like projections of fibrous connective tissue that support the epithelial proliferation.
What is the treatment for Squamous Papilloma?
Conservative excision, including base. Prognosis is excellent, recurreneces uncommone.
Is there a risk of malignant transformation with Squamous Papilloma?
No
What does Verruca Vulgaris look like? Who does it frequently affect and where?
Sessile, exophytic, papillary lesion. Can be multiple. Red border, white dry lumpy middle

Frequently effects children - hands and facial skin
Whats the treatment for Verruca Vulgaris?
Spontaneous regression common in kids. Excision, cryotherapy, keratolytic agents can be used. May recur.
Condyloma Acuminatum look like?
Oral lessions, multiple, seeile, cauliflower surface
What is it caused by and known as?
HPV 6, 11, 16 and 18

Know as Venereal Warts
What is the treatment for Condyloma Acuminatum?
Excision, cryotherapy, laser excision.

Recurrence is common - 30% after each treatment episode.
What is Condyloma Acuminatum associated with?
Squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix
What is the histology of Mulluscum Contagiosum?
Lobular proliferation of surface epithelium with basophillic viral filled molluscum bodies in the cells
What is Molluscum Contagiosum caused by and what does it look like?
DNA poxvirus

Multiple pink papules affect the skin of the neck, or genitalia. Each papule has a central core or depression
What is the treatment of Molluscum Contagiosum?
Curettage or liquid Nitrogen, although they often resolve spontaneously in immune competent hosts in 6-9 monhts
What is Hairy Leukoplakia caused by, look like, and tx?
Epstein-Barr virus, often superimposed candidiasis.

Non removale white plaques of the lateral tongue

No tx necessary
