Risk
The total amount of products and services taht the project is supposed to provide
Scope
A condition that occurs when projects grow and change in unanticipated ways that increase costs, extend deadlines, or otherwise negatively affect the project goal
Scope Creep
A small box that appears with the name of the item you are pointingto; the item can be a button, indicator, or bar and helps determine the item name or function.
ScreenTip
a spreadsheet-link representation of data in which each task is displayed as row and each piece of information (field) about the task is represented by a column
Sheet View
The amount of time that a task may be delayed from it's scheduled start date without delaying the entire project
Slack
The verticle bar that divides the table and the Gantt Chart in the Gantt Chart View
Split Bar

Team
A view that shows each resource in the project on a separate row. All of the tasks that the resource is assigned to are on the same row. Used for planning, only available in Project Professional 2010. Tasks that are not assigned to anyone appear at the bottom.
Team Planner
A view at the top of the Gantt Chart or Network Diagram views that shows the scope of the project from the Start to Finish date; tasks can be placed on the Timeline.
Timeline
Task, resource, or assignment cost that is distributed over time.
Timephased
A measurement of time in bar format with one, two, or three tiers at the top of the various Gantt views, the Resource Graph view, the Task Usage view, and the Resource Usage view, where the lengths of each bar show the units of time (minutes, hours, days, weeks, thirds of months, months, quarters, half years, or years) in relationship to one another.
Timescale
The top bar of any application software running on a Windows computer.
Title Bar
The top row of the timescale that is displayed at the top of the various Gantt views, Resource Graph view, Task Usage view, and Resource Usage view
Top Tier
When applied to the Task Sheet, it provides all of the actual fields (actual date, duration, work, and cost) in one sheet view
Tracking Table
When applied to the Task Sheet, after setting a baseline and updating progress, it provides the fields (Start, Finish, Baseline Start, Baseline Finish, Start Var. and Finish Var.) necessary to view the differences in one sheet view.

Critical task
The amound of time between the scheduled star for a task and the time when work actually begins on the task
Delay
Clock time (rather than working time) // Time that has passed.
Elapsed time
A tool that appears as a small square in the lower-right corner of the selected cell which, when dragged, copies the contents of the active cell to the cells to which you drag
Fill handle
A dependency type that specifies that one task must finish befoe the second task can finish
Finish-to-Finish (FF)
A dependency type that specifies that one task must finish before the second task can start
Finish-to-Start (FS)
The amount of time that a task can slip before it affects or delays any successor tasks
Free slack
Editing made directly in a cellof a sheet view, rather than via the Entry bar
In-cell editing
To move a task to the right (a lower level in the WBS or outline) in a task sheet
Indent
A period of time (either positive or negative) imposed on a relationship between tasks
Lag time
An amount of time that the second task in a relationship is moved backward in time so that the two tasks overlap. Also called negative lag time
Lead time
The process of creating task dependencies
Linking Tasks
A symbolic task that has zero duration and is used to communicate progress or the end of a significant phase of the project
Milestone
Moves the second task backward in time so that the tasks overlap; called lead time in general project management discussions
Negative lag time
A task that doesn't necessarily have to start on its currently sheduled start date in order for the overall project to be completed on time
Noncritical task
the hours of a 24-hour day that are not specified as working time
Nonworking time
To move a task to the left (a higher level in the WBS or outline)
Outdent
To take a copy of the information on the clipboard and insert it at a specified location
Paste
An amount of time that the second task in a relationship is moved forward in time. The traditional definition of lag time in general project management discussions
Positive lag time
The base calender used by Project 2010 to schedule new tasks within the project
Project calender
A bar that summarizes the timeline of your project in the Gantt chart
Project Summary task bar
A task that repeats at regular interval
Recurring Task
A special calender created for each resource used when the resource does not follow the working and nonworking times specified by the project calender
Resource calender
The box containing the row number in a sheet. Click to select the entire row in the table or sheet view
Row selector
A button that appears when you delete a task or resource, change resource assignments, or change start or finish dates, work, units, or durations and that displays options to help you complete the action
Smart tag
A calender used to schedule tasks within the project that specifies Monday through Friday as working days with eight hours of work completed each day and Saturday and Sunday as nonworking days.
Standard calender
A dependency type that specifies that the first task must start before the second task can finish
Start-to-Finish (SF)
A dependency type that specifies that the first task must start before the second task can start
Start-to-Start (SS)
A grouping of tasks that logically belong together. Summary tasks are listed in bold text in the Task Entry table. Each display a Collapse/Expand button to its left so that showing or hiding the task can easily be done within that phase. Also called phase
Summary task
A bar representing a summary task in the Gantt chart.
Summarry task bar
A special calender that can be created for tasks that do not follow the working and nonworking times specified by the Standard calender.
Task calender
The relationship between two tasks in a project. Also called task link, linked task, or linking task
Task dependency
A method of planning a project by starting with broad catagories of tasks, such as the summary tasks.
Top-down method
An alphanumeric code used to represent each task's position within the hierarchical structure of the project
WBS code
A way to code each task to identify and group project tasks for communication, documentation, or accounting purposes. An outcome-oriented analysis of the work involved in a project that defines the total scopre of the project.
Work breakdown (WBS)
The hours during which work can occur
Working time
A filter that allows you to determine the filter criteria by selecting from a criteria list automatically associated with each column in the Entry table.
AutoFilter
Use to determine formatting such as color, pattern, or text for categories of tasks in the Gantt chart.
Bar Styles dialog box
To show a subset of resources or tasks that meet certain criteria.
Filter
In the Gantt chart, nonprinting line that can improve the readability of a view by providing a visual guide to help you interepret the bars.
Gridline
The lines that show dependencies or relationships between task bars in Gantt Chart view and between the task boxes in Network Diagram view.
Link Line
Detailed or summarized information about a particular aspect of the project.
Report
A bar on the Gantt chart used to represent slack.
Slack Bar
The amount of time that a task can be delayed without affecting the entire project; for tasks on the critcial path, free slack equals total slack.
Total Slack / Float
A constraint that schedules a task to start as late as possible without conflicting any other tasks; the default constraint fot any task entered in a project that scheduled from a given Start Date.
As Late As Possible (ALAP)
A constraint that schedules a task to start as soon as possible without conflicting with any other tasks; the default constraint for any tasks entered in a project that is scheduled from a given Start Date.
As Soon As Possible (ASAP)
To shorten critical tasks based on economic considerations; tasks with the least incremental cost are shortened.
Crash
A template that defines how the boxes in the network diagram are formatted. Also called box template.
Data Template
A bar used to enter or edit an existing entry, such as a task name or duration.
Entry Bar
To shorten a project schedule by performing activities in parallel that you normally do in sequence.
Fast Track
A restriction on a task that is movable or not fixed.
Flexible Constraint
A restriction placed on a task that dictates the Start and Finish dates of a task, such as the "Must Start On" or "Must Finish On" constraint.
Inflexible Constraint
The amount of money that you have allocated for the project based on cost and time estimates.
Budget
An expenditure made to accomplish a task.
Cost
Expenses that are associated with a task but do not vary regardless of length of the task or the number of resources assigned to the task.
Fixed Cost
The person's equipment, or materials used to complete a task in a project.
Resource
Used for inital data entry of resources
Resource Sheet
Calculated initially as the task duration (converted to hours) multiplied by the number of resources initially assigned to that task.
Total Work
These are determined by the number of resource units assigned to a task as well as the hourly or per-use cost for that rexource.
