SERMs competitively block or activate alpha, and they are direct agonists of beta estrogen receptors.
Alpha receptors are in Breast Ovaries and Uterus. Beta receptors are in Bone (brain, liver and heart) So, the osteoporosis drugs, SERMs, are agents for the estrogen receptors in bone, which are beta receptors, which inhibits osteoclast activity. |
