Desktop
The starting screen of the computer.
Icons

Recycle Bin
Where you put files that you want to delete.
Folder
A place to store your computer work or files.
File
A piece of computer work.
Taskbar
The bar located at the bottom of Microsoft Windows OS, which displays the start button, system clock, programs that are currently running, as well as other open windows.
Hard Drive
Disks inside the computer where all of the data is stored.
Window
This opens when you click on an icon. It is a rectangular vision area showing the program being used or what is in a folder.
Menu
Gives you options or choices of what to do.
Interface
The way the computer screen looks and interacts with the user.
Operating System
The main program that runs the computer. Windows is the OS for our school computers. iOS 7 is the OS for iPods and iPads.

The blinking line that lets you know where to type.

To hide a window from view.
Maximum
Makes a makes a window become larger.

When a window is not large enough to display all of the content, you may need to do this to bring more content in to view.

A page layout style that orients the page up and down. MS Word default layout.
Landscape
A page layout style that orients the page up and down.

A preset value for some option in a computer program that is used when the setting has not been otherwise specified by the user.
Format
Layout or arrangement of data.
Hardware
Refers to the physical parts of a computer and related devices.
Input Device
A device used to insert information into a computer. (Keyboard, microphone, mouse, camera, scanner,etc.)
Output Device
A device used to extract information from a computer. (Screen , printer, headphones, etc.)
Software
Programs that allow you do to things on a computer like play games, word processing, view files on the internet.
Word Processor
Processes words, paragraphs,pages, and larger documents. (MS Word or Google Docs)
Spreadsheet
A document that stores data in a grid of horizontal rows and vertical columns. Both MS Excel and Google Spreadsheets are programs that can be used to create a spreadsheet.

Most common type of computer port/plug.
