a set of procedures used to support or assist in modifying a hypothesis, involving experimentation, data collection, and analyzes of results.

Anthropology

the study of humans. There are four subsets:
-Linguistics- the study of language


-Cultural anthropology- the study of modern human behaviors


-Physical anthropology- the study of the development and change of the human body


-archaeology- the study of past cultures through cultural remains

Hunter and Gatherers

Nomadic societies, often egalitarian, who rely on the hunting of wild animals and foraging of wild plants for subsistence.

Bands

a small group of related people who are organized by familial bonds.

Tribes

a small group of related people who also also have temporary or permanent political, linguistic, ideological traditions.

Cheifdoms

a society where political organization is inherited through kinship lines and ranked to where only a few select individuals are involved in decision making for the group

State

a cultural construct with formal political organization and central bureaucracy with the authority employ legalized force

Stratigraphy

the layering of cultural deposits in the archaeological matrix where the more recent deposits appear first and the older deposits are at deeper strata.

Dendrochronology

a form of dating using tree rings to determine age and environmental conditions

Radiocarbon Dating

a form of absolute dating that uses organic materials and measures the C-14 isotope to determine age

Typology

the study of and chronological arrangement of artifacts based on similarities and characteristics
