Definition of a "Ball"
A Ball is a pitch which does not enter the strike zone in flight and is not struck at by the batter.
Definition of a "Base Coach"
A team member in uniform or an adult manager or coach.
Definition of a "Batter-Runner"
An offensive player who has just finished a time at bat until that player is put out or until the play on which that player becomes a runner ends.
Definition of "Batting Order"`
The list of current defensive players in the order in which they are to bat.
Definition of a "Bunt:
A batted ball not swung at, but intentionally met with the bat and tapped slowly. The mere holding of the bat in the strike zone is not an attempted bunt. "If no attempt is made to make contact with a balloutside the strike zone while in the bunting stance, it should be called a ball. An effort must be made to intentionally meet the ball with the bat."
Definition of a "Catch"
An act of gaining secure possession in the hand or glove of a ball in flight and firmly holding it before it touches the ground, providing player does not use cap, protector, pocket or other part of uniform in gaining posession.
Definition of a "Dead Ball"
A ball out of play because of a legally created temporary suspension of play.
Definition of a "Fair Ball"
A batted ball that:
a) settles on fair ground between Home and First (or Home and Third)
b) over fair territory when bounding past first or third
c) touches first second or third base
d) first falls on fair territory beyond first or third base
e) while fair territory touches an umpire or player
f) or passes out of play in fair territory (home run)
Definition of a "Fielder"
Any defensive player.
Definition of a "Force Play"
A play in which a runner legally loses the right to accupy a base by reason of the batter becoming a runner.
Definition of a "Foul Ball"
A batted ball that
a) settles in foul territory between Home and First or Third
b) bounds past 1st or 3rd on or over foul territory
c) falls on foul territory beyond 1st or 3rd
d) While in foul territory touches umpire or foreign object
Definitiion of "Infield Fly"
A fair fly ball which can be caught by an infielder with ordinary effort when:
a) runners on 2st and second and less than 2 outs
b) bases loaded with less than 2 outs
Definition of "in flight"
A batted, thrown, or pitched ball which has not yet touched the ground or some object other than a fielder.
Definition of "Obstruction"
The act of a fielder who, while not in possession of the ball, impedes the progress of any runner. A fake tag is considered obstruction.
Definition of a "Strike"
A legal pitch which meets any of these 7 conditions:
1) struck at by the batter and misses
2) is not struck at, but passes through strike zone
3) fouled by the batter with less than two strikes
4) bunted foul
5) touches the batter's person as the batter strikes at it.
6) touches the batter in flight in the strike zone
7) becomes a foul tip.
Definition of a "Strike Zone"
The space over home plate which is between the batter's armpits and the top of the knees when the batter assumes a neutral stance (when swinging).
Definition of a "Tag"
When a fielder
a) touches a base with the body while holding the ball securely in hand or glove; or
b) touching a runner with the ball or with the hand or glove holding the ball.
Rule 3.01 Pre-Game Duties

f) fair ball touches batter before touching a fielder
g) if bat hits a fair ball a second time in fair territory
h) After hitting or bunting a foul ball, batter-running intentionally deflects
i) after hitting a fair ball is tagged, or first base is tagged
j) interferes with throw while outside runner's lane
k) infielder intentionally drops fair fly or line drive, with runners on first before two outs.
l) if a preceding runner interferes with a play
Rule 6.06 A batter is out for illegal actions when...
a) hits with a foot outside batting box
b) switching from one box to other when pitcher is ready
c) interfering with catcher
