Why do you want to baptised?
to please God, follow Christ, and start again with my sins forgiven
What does baptism symbolise
burying an old way of life and rising up new ... washing away sin.

Romans 6
Why is it called baptism into Christ?
because baptism is like how He died to what the natural ways, and died in real life, lived new ways and was given new life in resurrection.

We be like him, and God rewards us because of His kindness and goodness - he's pleased that we want to be like Christ.
Baptism is called a "covenant" - what does that mean?
It's a solemn agreement.

God will forgive us when we are "in Christ" and choose to be like Christ.

He will raise us.

It's an agreement He will keep if we keep our part faithfully.
So who benefits from being baptised?
It pleases God.

We can receive a gift ... eternal life (Mark 16 v 16)
Why was Jesus baptised?
Because he was like us.

He could feel temptation, and sin.

He wanted to show that he agreed in every way with what God wants us to do - bury the old, be the new.

He never sinned. But he was like us, had the potential to sin, and he was determined that he would be baptised because of what we are.
