Introduction

1. each ba team and BA Entry control point must have at least one means of radio comms. BA teams won't be committed otherwise.



2. Communication equipment should be worn by team leaders.


- Must be tested and call signs varified before entering risk area.


- Details of teams progress


- Gauge pressures and any hazards identified should be passed to Ec on regular basis.



3. (BARIE)- breathing apparatus radio interface equipment - audibility for both transmission and reception.



4. If BARIE sets are not available- Entel 480/1 personal issue handheld radio may be used only after a risk assessment has been carried out by Ic. Entel 480/1 is not intrinsically safe must not be used in flammable or explosive areas atmospheres.




The radio consists of


- Single unit transceiver


- Internal microphone


- Loudspeaker


- External aerial



RADIO- splash proof and submersible



- Channel 6 must be selected by the wearer for BA comms


- Channel 5 Base station and leaky feeder equipment installed.



-Radio supplied with two lithium ion intrinsically safe batteries


- Always turn off before installing/ removing battery


Work duration- 12-14 hours.


Fully discharged battery- 6 hours to charge.


-7.4 volt recharable lithium ion



Radio and BaRIE joined by an accessory connector


- Secured in place by special fixing method


- No attempt to be made to separate components except trained radio workshop staff. Tampering with connections affect the safety, BaRIE would -be classed off the run and defective.



Microphone- consists of bone conduction that is attached to top Facemask strap and sits on top of head. Must maintain contact with hair/head at all times in use.



EAR speaker fitted to detachable arm with flexible fixing strap. Arm fitted to upper Facemask strap attachment point and placed on either left or right.



Press to talk- enables user to operate easily



Therapies and compartments of the interface equipment not interchangeable with other interface radio equipment.



Entel HT981- Permanently connected to a BaRIE set and allocated to appliances as follows;



. Pump ladder 2 baries each



. Pump 2 baries each



Fire rescue unit 2 baries each



Each radio with one battery attached will be stored within yellow protective case. Cases are not interchangeable with any other equipment.




Personal handheld radios



Entel HX-480/1 incident radio together with two batteries and case is personal issue to all operational staff.



1. Non - intrinsically safe handheld incident radio


2. Not to be used in flammable or explosive atmospheres


3. Uses the same channels as other incident radios


4. Splash proof but will not withstand immersion.



-It is your responsibility to ensure radio batteries are charged



- Each station has 2 spare radios



- Off duty radio and batteries are kept securely stored and not left attached to personal protective equipment.



Incident radio channels LFB



Channel 1 - used for initial general incident command



Channel 2 - additional command channel- used to distinguish between incident ground and command radio traffic: can only be used on attendance



Channel 3- used under direction of operations/sector commander for FF



Channel 4- direction of duty radio officer



Channel 5-communications where leaky feeder and Base station is installed



Channel 6 - BA comms



Channel 7/8 special use/ inter agency

channel 1,2,3,4,6,7- single frequency working, receiving and transmitting on same frequency.



Channels 2, 5 and 8 - two frequency working; recieve and transmit frequencies ate different and work only were leaky feeder and Base station equipment is installed.



BaRIE wearers turn the radio on an lock it to appropriate channel prior to rigging in BA.
