The ease that people navigate the digital world successfully

What is a COMPUTER?
A machine that, under a program's direction and control, performs four basic operations: Input, Processing, Output & Storage.
What is INPUT?
Raw data prior to processing.
Define PROCESSING:
The computer performs arithmetic or comparison (logical) operations on the represented data.
What is OUTPUT?
The displayed results of the processing operations.
What is STORAGE?
The storage of results for further use
What is an ALGORITHM?
The overall, step-by-step procedure used to solve a problem.
Describe INTERACTIVE PROCESSING:
The initiation of multiple information processing cycles simultaneously.
What is CYPERPHOBIA?
An exaggerated fear of computing that leads people to avoid computers.
Describe NANOTECHNOLOGY:
The art of manipulating materials on an atomic or molecular scale especially to build microscopic devices (as robots)
What is a NANOMETER?
One billionth of a meter.
What is a computer BUG?
An error or defect in soft/hardware that causes a program to malfunction.
What is a COMPUTER SYSTEM?
A collection of related components that have all been designed to work together smoothly
What is COMPUTER HARDWARE?
Physical components of a computer system.
What are INPUT DEVICES?
Hardware that permits the ability to enter data into a computer.
What is a COMMAND?
A kind of input through which you tell the program what to do.
What is a CONFIRMATION?
A message that indicates that the command was carried out.
What is an ERROR MESSAGE?
A message that indicates that the command was not carried out.
What is a KEYBOARD?
The most widely used input device.
What is the function of the ARROW KEYS?
Used to move the cursor (aka Insertion Point), how and where the text will appear when you start typing.
What is a POINTING DEVICE?
Such as a mouse, that enables the user to move an on-screen pointer.
What is SPEECH RECOGNITION SOFTWARE?
Software that transcribes spoken words into on-screen text.
What is the CENTRAL PROCESSING UNIT (CPU)?
The computers processing circuitry also called the SYSTEM UNIT, cantains additional components as well. i.e. storage devices and connectors for I/O devices.
What is a MICROPROCESSOR?
A complex electronic circuit fabricated on a wafer or CHIP of silicon
What is the MOTHERBOARD?
A computer's main circuit board.
What is MEMORY?
Stores program instructions (the tools) and data (the parts) so that the CPU can access them quickly
What is RAM?
Random Access Memory - the area work "work" is performed.
