What are the cell structures in an animal cell? |
Nucleus Cytoplasm Cell membrane Ribosome Mitochondria |
What are the structures in a plant cell? |
All the same as animal cells plus Chloroplasts Cell wall Vacuole |
Describe the nucleus. |
Contains DNA in the form of chromosomes. |
Describe Cytoplasm. |
Where most of the cells chemical reactions take place. |
Describe cell membrane. |
Holds the cell together and controls what goes in and out |
Describe ribosomes. |
Where proteins are synthesised. |
Describe Mitochondria. |
Where most of thee reactions involved in respiration take place. |
What type of cells need lots of mitochondria? |
Cells that need lots of energy e.g. Liver cells and muscle cells |
Describe the Cell wall. |
Made of cellulose. It supports the cell. |
Describe the vacuole. |
A relatively large structure that contains cell sap, a weak solution of sugar and salts. |
Describe chloroplasts. |
Where photosynthesis happens. |
What are chromosomes? |
Long molecules of coiled up DNA. |
Describe the structure of DNA. |
Is a double helix. Each of the two DNA strands is made up of nucleotides. DNA has 4 bases A C G T. |
Describe complementary base - pairing. |
A always pairs up with T and C always pairs up with G. |
What does DNA control? |
The production of proteins (protein synthesis) in a cell. |
