Explain why plants need light. |
To photosynthesise, they use this water and carbon dioxide to create glucose which is used for energy. |
|
Explain why plants need nutrients. |
Nitrogen: Make amino acids and proteins. Promotes green, leafy growth and formation of stems. Phosphorus: Seed germination and healthy root growth. Potassium: Flowering, fruiting and general hardiness (disease resistence). Needed in photosynthesis and respiration. |
|
Suggest the factors for which plants are competing in a given habitat. |
Rainforest: Compete for sunlight - the trees compete to grow the tallest to get the more sunlight. The plants also take up more space and gain more sunlight by incease the surface of their leaves. They also spread their roots below the surface to take up more water and push away the other plant roots. |
