Understand that plants respond to changes in their environment.

For example: Deciduous trees loose the leave in winter to preserve energy.

: Cactus plants store water to survive in dry seasons.

Describe how plants respond to light, moisture and gravity.

Light: Tilt towards lights, leaves move (phototrophic). Roots - negatively phototrophic. Shoots - positively phototrophic.

Moisture: Roots develop root hair cells.

Gravity: Geotropism (roots move towards gravity). Shoots - negatively geotropic.

Roots - positively geotropic.

Describe how plant hormones can be used in agriculture and horticulture.

By getting rid of dandelions in a lawn without killing the grass, or getting rid of thistles in a field without killing the wheat plants. The selective weed killer contains growth hormone that causes the weeds to grow too quickly

Explain how plant responses are due to uneven distribution of hormones causing unequal growth rates.

Hormones coordinate between the receptor and the effector. Auxin influences the growth of plant cells, the distribution of this effects the direction the way a plant grows in. For example; in the shoot, the hormone collects in the lower level and stimulates growth. The longer side of the shoot (where it bends) is where the Auxin promotes more growth, aiming towards light.
