Where does the axillary vein commence

At the lower border of the teres major as a continuation of the basilic vein.

Where does the axillary vein run.

At the outer border of the first rib the axillary vein enters the root of the neck as the subclavian vein in front of scalenus anterior. The venae comitantes of the brachial artery join the axillary vein near its commencement and the cephalic vein drains into it above pectoralis minor.

Describe the anatomy of the axillary vein and compare it to the cephalic and subscapular veins

It has a pair of valves near its distal and and the cephalic and subscapular have valve near their terminations

What is the position of the axillary vein as it compares to the axillary artery

It lies medial to the axillary artery which it partly overlaps anteriorly.

What lies between the artery and vein

The medial pectoral nerve, the medial cord of the brachial plexus, ulnar nerve and medial cutaneous nerve of the forearm

What nerve is medial to the vein

The medial cutaneous nerve

Describe the subscapular veins

are multiple and lie on the posterior wall of the axilla; they are encountered during surgical clearance of axillary lymph nodes.

Describe the lateral thoracic vein

is connected by the thoracoepigastric vein to the superficial epigastric vein, a tributary of the great saphenous vein

What happens during inferiord vena cava obstruction

The communicating channels become prominent on the side of the trunk
