What is the superior hypogastric plexus?
The continuation of the aortic plexus onto sacral promontory.
What are the hypogastric nerves? How many are there? Where do they come from/go?
Right and left, leave the superior hypogastric plexus and enter the pelvis on the way to the inferior hypogastric plexus.
What type of fibers are contained in the inferior hypogastric plexus?
Both sympathetic and parasympathetic.
Where does the inferior hypogastric plexus course along?
Branches of the internal iliac arteries.
What type of nerves are sacral splanchnic nerves? Where do they arise from/ are they going?
Postganglionic sympathetic fibers that arise from the sacral sympathetic chain to enter the inferior hypogastric plexus.
Where do sympathetic preganglionic nerves arise from?
Lateral horn T1-L2
Where do parasympathetic preganglionic nerves arise from?
CN 3,7,9,10 (Vagus)

Where do the hypogastric nerves go? What course do they take?
THey travel over the pelvic brim, they distribute themselves into inferior hypogastric plexus (along branches of the internal iliac) They then follow to the superior surface of the bladder and sends fibers along specific branches to organs.
What organs are supplied by lateral horn L1-L2? (5)
Urinary bladder, Rectum, Uterus- fundus, Vagina, Seminal vesicle
What are the 2 choices lateral horn preganglionic sympathatic cell bodies have?
Lumbar splanchnic nerves to superior hypogastric plexus or can descend in the sympathetic chain to the sacral region.

Small ganglia in superior hypogastric plexus.
