BATTERY

Stores electricity in the vehicle.
ALTERNATOR
Generates electricity for the vehicle.
DISTRIBUTOR
Provides electricity for the spark plugs.
SPARK PLUG
Provides the spark that ignites the fuel/air mixture.
CARBURETOR

A device that mixes fuel and air and feeds the mixture into the cylinder

CAMSHAFT

A shaft that operates the valves.

CONNECTING ROD
A rod that connects the piston and the crankshaft.
GEARBOX
A box containing various gears to optimize power output to the drive shafts.
RADIATOR
Contains cooling water or coolant to cool down the engine.
DRIVE SHAFT
A shaft that turns the wheels.
EXHAUST MANIFOLD
A set of pipes through which exhaust gases exit the engine.
FUEL INJECTOR
A device that injects fuel/air mixture into the cylinder.
PISTON
This thing goes up and down the cylinder activated by the combustion of burning gases in the combustion chamber.
COMBUSTION CHAMBER
A space in the cylinder where the fuel/air mixture ignites and burns.
MASTER CYLINDER
Part of the braking system holding the brake fluid.
POWER STEERING
Usually electrically powered steering system.
FLYWHEEL
A large metal wheel attached to the crankshaft to level out the running of the engine.
SUSPENSION
All the springs and shock absorbers and tie rods that dampen the shocks to the vehicle when on uneven surfaces.
INTAKE VALVE
Opens to let the fuel/air mixture pass to the intake port.
EXHAUST VALVE
Opens to let the burnt-out exhaust gases exit the cylinder throught the exhaust port.
ECU
A central processor that controls the engine, its operations and emissions.
EGR
A system where exhaust gases are recirculated into the intake manifold.
EGO SENSOR
A sensor that measures the amount of oxygen in the exhaust pipe.
MAF SENSOR
A sensor that measures mass air flow in the intake channel.
ABS
Stands for antilock braking system.
MFI
Stands for multi point fuel injection.
DOHC
Stands for double overhead camshaft.
CRANKSHAFT
A shaft that is connected to the lower end of the connecting rod to take on the turning motion.
VIN
This is short for the individual vehicle number by which the vehicle may be identified.
TRUNK
A place where you can store your luggage in the car.
INSTRUMENT PANEL
A panel containing all relevant instruments to control the vehicle.
SPEEDOMETER
A meter that indicates how fast you are traveling.
TACHOMETER
Shows the amount of revolutions per minute (RPM) your engine is doing.
ODOMETER
Shows the distance traveled.
