What are the 4 parts of an Optical Audio Track?
(In order from left to right)
-Sony SDDS, Dolby Digital, Stereo Analog, DTS
Where is the Stereo Analog track located on film? What is it used for?
The stereo analog track is located to the left of the DTS track and to the right of the sprocket holes.

The stereo audio track is used only when the digital audio track fails. When the digital audio fails the stereo audio track is played back instead as a backup.
Where is Sony SDDS located on film? What was its format?
Sony SDDS is located on the far left edge of the film. This location made it prone to damage and often failed.

Where is Dolby Digital located on film?
Dolby Digital is located in-between the sprocket holes of the film.
Where is DTS located on film? What different about DTS than all the other audio tracks?
DTS is located to the right of the Stereo Analog track.

DTS is timecode that syncs the external audio track to the film. No actual audio is stored on the DTS track itself, the audio is played off a disk reader.
Why must you have a Stereo Analog track? Why must you have a Dolby Digital track as well?
You must have a Stereo Analog track as a back up if your digital audio fails.

You have to have a Dolby Digital track because it is the DVD standard.
