Atropine Sulphate -Pharamacological Action

Block the stimulation of the parasympathetic nervious system causing:


• Cardiac: positive ino-, chrono-, dromotrope


• Eyes: mydriasis


• Exocrine glands: decreased sweat, tears, salivary and pancreatic secretions


• Lungs: bronchodilation


• Digestive System: decreased peristalsys

Atropine Sulphate - Contraindications

Neonates (Child < 4 months)

Atropine Sulphate - Dosage

• Adult: 2mg IM


• Children 0.02mg/kg IM


Every 3 mins until atropinization occurs (No max dosage)

Immidiate

Rule out other cause of Bradycardia


eg. Hypothermia, Hypoxia, Head Injury, Toxins, Health Issues

Atropine Sulphate - Adverse effects

• Mydriasis


• Dry mucous membranes


• Tachycardia


• Dry, hot skin
