ATROPINE SULFATE
CLASS: Anticholinergic ACTION: competes reversibly with acetylcholine at the site of the muscarinic receptors INDICATIONS: symptomatic bradycardia, asystole or PEA, organophosphate poisoning. ADVERESE EFFECTS: dry mouth, hot skin temperature, facial flushing, blurred vision, tachycardia, ( atropine may cause paradoxical bradycardia if the dose administered is too low or if the drug too slowly). COTRAINDICATIONS: known sensitivity, AMI, GI obstraction, closed-angle glaucoma |
DOSAGE:
SYMPTOMATIC BRADYCARDIA: Adult: 0.5mg IV, IO every 3-5 min ( max 3mg). Adolescent: 0.02 mg/kg (max 2mg). Pedriatric: 0.02 mg/kg ( max 1mg). ASYSTOLE/PULSELESS ELECTRICAL ACTIVITY: 1 mg IV, IO every 3-5 min, max dose 3 mg. If administered via ET tube: 2 - 2.5 mg diluted in 5 to 10 ml of water or normal saline NERNE AGENT OR ORGANOPHOSPHATE POISONING: Adult: 2-4 mg IV, IO: may repeat if needed every 20-30 min. Pedriatric: 0.05 mg/kg IV, IM very 10-30 min Infants<15lb: 0.05 mg/kg every5-20 min as needed. SPECIAL CONSIDERATION: Pregnancy class C Half-life 2.5 hr. |

GLUCAGON
CLASS: Hormone ACTION: Converts glycogen to glucose. INDICATIONS: Hypoglycemia, Beta blocer overdose. ADVERSE EFFECT: Nausea/vomiting, hypotension, sinus tachycardia. CONTRAINDICATIONS: insulinoma, known sensitivity. |
DOSAGE:
HYPOGLYCEMIA: Adult: 1mg IM,IV,IO, or Sub-Q Pedriatric: (<20kg): 0.5mg, route as above. BETA-BLOCKER OVERDOSE: Adult: 2-5 mg IV,IO over a 1 min. period ( sec. dose of10 mg IV if the symptoms of bradycardia & hypotension recur. Pediatric: for pt <20 kg: 0.5mg SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: Pregnancy class B |
