Mechanism of Actions
|
Inhibits action of acetylcholine (ACH) at the muscarinic recepter reversing effects of the parasympathetic resulting in an increased heart rate.

Indications
|
Symptomatic bradycardia, asystole, Slow PEA, Cardiac Arrest, Organophosphate poisoning.
|

Contraindications
|
None in Emergency Setting
|

Side Effects
|
Tachycardia, increased myocardial oxygen demand, palpitation, nervousness, blurred vision, drymouth.

Notes/ Cautions
|
Push to slow or to little= Paradoxical Bradycardia
Caution with pregnant women. |
|
Dose Rate
|
Symptomatic Bradycardia- 0.5mg q 3-5 minutes maximum of 3mg
Asystole, Cardiac Arrest and Slow PEA- 1mg every 3-5 minutes maximum 3mg 2-2.5 mg IV VIA ETT Poisoning 2-5 IVP |
