Jumps

Throws

Javelin hold the handle of the javelin like you would hold a taco (open hand)turn with your side facing the throwing area; keep the javelin in front of your chest and pointed towards the throwing area as wellbegin running sideways towards the line maintaining your throwing formthrow the javelin with enough space left to not cross the line before you stop running


Shot put hold the shot-put against your neck with the weight of it supported by the heel of your hand (not fingers)stand with one foot near the linewith the elbow of your throwing arm high in the air, rotate your body back for power and then swing forward and push the shot-put forward with the heel of your hand at a 45º angle


Discushold the discuss with one hand; your palm flat on one side and only the tips of your fingers reaching over the


edge stand with one foot near the linewith your throwing arm straight, swing the discus behind your back for power and swing then forward and release the discus off your little finger (pinky) at a 45º angle

Races

Starting place both hands with forefinger and thumb as close to the starting line as possible without touching or going over it the toe of your front foot should be even with your handsthe knee of your back leg should be even with the back of your front foot; curl under the toe of your back foot look down or forward while listening for the referee’s commands on the command “set” raise your body slightly in the air but keep a bend in your knees


Running at the sound of the whistle, push up from your hands and legs and begin runningremain in your own lane for the entire race (1 lap; sprint) or until you are allowed to merge into lane 1adjust your speed to optimize your success;


sprint race—run as fast as possible


lap races—conserve energy so you don’t get too tired too quicklycontinue running until you have crossed the finish line; slowing down sooner will give you bad results
