-there's about 5 thousand asteroids that are discovereds every month(368,650 were registered by march 3, 2007)
What is the gravitational attraction?
Is where planets that are formed out of dust grains, collide and stick to form larger and larger bodies.Low energy collisions allowed these objects to stick to each other through the same gravitational attraction and travel along the same path.
Different types of asteroids
1) c-type asteroids: Carbonaceous asteroids are the most common type making up 75% fo all asteroids.
2)s-type asteroid: silicaceous asteroids, make up 17% of asteroids which is the second most common.
3)m-type asteroids: are asteriods that are made up of other substances that are left over.
What is the LINEAR Project?
LINEAR stands for Lincoln Near-Earth Asteroid Research project. Asteroids are discovered and tracked from earth by robotic telescopes. Much can be learned by studying and tracking asteroids. Many parts of asteroids tell what planet they were developed from and what that planet is made of. Could be carbon base, hydrogen, nickle-iron materials.
