To ensure pt has sufficient sensory and cognitive abilities to take part in therapy

Why should sensation be assessed?

To determine suitability for mobilising the patient

Why should upper limb function be assessed on a hip replacement patient?

To ensure pt has enough strength and function to complete in bed transfers and use the appropriate walking frame

Why should lower limb function be assessed?

To assess if patient can transfer to the edge of the bed, move feet to the floor, stand to the mobility aid and then transfer/mobilise providing that muscle strength and control is sufficient

What 3 main pieces of information should you check in a patients files before assessing them for mobilising?
