Aspirin Generic Name
Aspirin, ASA, acetylsalicylic acid
Aspirin Classification
nonnarcotic analgesic, antipyretic, antiplatelet, salicylate
Aspirin Action
Prevents formation of thromboxane A2, which causes platelets to aggregate
Aspirin Indications
Pain, discomfort, fever in adult pt only. Chest pain or other s/sx suggestive of an ACS. EKG changes suggestive of acute MI. Unstable angina.
Aspirin Contraindications
GI Bleeding, active ulcer disease, hemmoragic stroke, bleeding D/O, child with chickenpox or flulike symptoms, known sensitivity.
Aspirin Adverse Effects
Anaphylaxis, angioadema, bronchospasm, bleeding, stomach irritation, nausea, vomiting
