Skilled users of ASL tend to use a lot of facial expressions to clarify and extend the meanings of their signs. How you use your face also helps establish if you are asking a question and whether that question is open-ended or if it should be answered with a simple yes or no response.

No, some read lips.

No, only 25% - 30% are lip readable. Not everyone can read lips. Most of it is just guessing and context.

No, a hearing aid only amplifies the sound.
PROS: it works as a hearing aid. With ongoing therapy, child may be able to pick up some sounds/speech. There are some success stories, depends on severity of hearing loss.
CONS: not a cure, child is still deaf, might still need SL. you have to pay for your therapy. your child is affected from there on out, any dangerous sport. The device needs to be replaced every so often. The relationship between parent / child may be impacted.

A video relay service (VRS) is a videotelecommunication service that allows deaf, hard-of-hearing and speech-impaired individuals to communicate over video telephones and similar technologies with hearing people in real-time, via a sign language interpreter. Doorbells - flashing lights. Alarm clocks - flashing lights, vibrating under pillow.
