These white patches on the skin in the picture is not a drawing that the person drew in, but it is actually a skin condition called vitiligo or leucoderma. As you can see from this picture, those with this condition has white patches on their skin, and I am going to explore more about this skin condition in this presentation.

I chose to do a presentation on this topic, because I once read an article on Chantelle Winnie, a Canadian model with vitiligo who participated in America’s Next Top Model, a famous TV show. I was impressed by how she overcame prejudice and turned it into her unique strength. I thought that this project was a great chance to explore more about the condition.

So, what is vitiligo? It is a chronic and non-contagious skin condition characterized by portions of the skin losing their pigment which affects approximately one percent of the global population. This rare skin condition can be categorized into two large parts: non-segmental and segmental. Non-segmental vitiligo which can come about at any age is a more common form of the condition which is signified by the symmetry in the location of the patches. This patches can be encompassing most of the body or only few area.
