-egg passed in feces
-dog has to ingest month old contaminated feces to develop infection
-larvae hatch/burrow into wall of jejunum and ileum (second half of small intestine)
-larva leave jejunum
-pass down cecum/colon (large intestines)
-attacth to wall by their thread like heads with the handle portion of their whip shaped bodies lying free in lumen of intestines.
-4 molts / 3 mos later adults reproduce.
How does the larva of whipworms affect the dog compared to adults?
-both drink blood/cause irritation to gut mucosa.
How to treat a whipworm yard infection?
Lime , the eggs are vulnerable to dessication.
