line
characteristics f line are length, width, and direction and can also portray a feeling or emotion; often creates visual movement leading the viewer's eye throughout a composition or form; can define the edge of a shape; can be actual or implied; descriptions - thick, thin, tapered, calligraphic, vertical, horizontal, diagonal, contour, gesture, diagrammatic, structural, etc.
texture
refers to the surface quality of "feel" of an object, such as roughness, smoothness, or softness; actual or real texture can be felt while simulated textures are implied by the way the materials are used to render 2-D textural images
value
describes the degree of light and dark in a composition; range between black and white and all the tones in between; value is used to imply volume in 2-D compositions; colors can also have different values
color
the three properties of color are: 1) hue - the name of a color (red, yellow, blue, green, violet, orange); 2) intensity - purity and strength of the color, such as brightness or dullness; 3) value - lightness or darkness of the color
shape
enclosed 2-D space; shape are flat and can be grouped in two categories, geometric and organic
form
3-D object that has volume and thickness; cubes, spheres, and cylinders are examples of various forms
space
refers to the distance or area between, around, above, or within things; can be a description for both 2-D and 3-D portrayals
