The Monk savonarola Is activities were increasingly taking on the appearance of fanaticism cause more and more people to oppose the preacher. He was put on trial in the city where he had hoped to bring about a political and moral Revival. Accused of heresy, he was hanged with two other Dominican monks on the 23rd of May 1498 on the Florentine Piazza Della signoria, and then burned at the stake. Their ashes were scattered in the Arno.

But Christian apologists were often looking back to text, both Pagan and Jewish text, and reinterpreting them into a Christian Light. Those predictions that the oracles made would be reread as referring to Christ and thus his Universal power would be further validated.
