What does AER stand for and what is it?

Army Emergency Relief. It's a non-profit organization with the sole purpose of helping Army personnel, retirees, and reservists on active duty for more than 30 days, and families by providing money through no-interest loans, grants or a combination of the two.

What activities does Red Cross promote?

Blood donations, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) courses, first aid classes, and water safety.

How does the Red Cross usually help the soldier?

The Red Cross should be notified if a family member or relative becomes terminally ill or dies. The Red Cross will verify the emergency and contact your company commander so arrangements can be made for emergency leave.
