Preservation

Most accurate type of historical preservation. Everything is respected and preserved. Mostly concerned with ongoing maintenance and repair, rather then expensive replacement.

Rehabilitation

Focus on retention and repair. But some replacement is ok, because of deterioration. Adapts property for compatible use through repair, alteration, addition, while preserving those portions that convey historical importance.

Restoration

Saves the materials from the most significant time period. Allowing to remove the materials from other periods.

Reconstruction

Least accurate, allows to recreate most things on the site using new materials. Mostly deteriorated.

Age of the building to qualify for grants and tax credits

50 years old. Some buildings might be included on the National Register of Historic Places simply because of their significance to the community.
