Beaufort Sea
A large Northern Sea. Oil and Natural Gas are under the Beaufort Sea floor.
Caribou
In the summer they live in the Arctic.
Camouflage
The way an animal blends in with its surroundings, it helps the animal to hide and protects it from its enemies.
Dark
In the winter it is dark because there is little light from the sun because the North Pole slants away from the sun.
Fat
Most of the food that Arctic animals eat is stored as fat. In the winter food is not that available. The fat provides them with energy and warmth.
Fur
Arctic animals have double furs to protect them from the cold and wind in the winter. An overcoat of long hair/fur and an undercoat of short wool-like fur/hair.
Glaciers
Large sheets of ice that move down a slope or a valley. Looks like a river of ice.
Lakes
A glacial lake is formed at the end of a melting glacier.
Hudson Bay
The largest bay in Canada.
Iceburg
A huge chunk of ice broken away from a glacier.Most of the iceburg is underwater. Danger to ships.
Oil
A natural resource found in the Arctic, under the floor of the Beaufort Sea.
Permafrost
Ground is frozen for most of the year.
Polar Bear
Largest predator in the Arctic, in both winter and summer.
Tundra
In the Arctic is a treeless landscape. Trees cannot grow because the growing season is too short. The land is mostly flat and rocky with many lakes, ponds, marshes and rivers.

Summer in the Arctic last only 6 weeks.Temperatures are warm and some of the snow and surface ice melts.
