Mesothelium
Simple Squamous Epithelium that forms the epithelial layer of serous membrane that lines the Thorasic & Abdominalpelvic cavities & covers viscera within cavities
Endothelium
Simple Squamous epithelium that lines the heart, blood vessels & lymphatic vessels.
Ciliated Epithelium
Single layer of ciliated column like cells with nuclei near base.
Contains columnar epithelial cells with cilia at the apical surface.
Stratified Epithelium
2 or more layers of cells.
Cells in the apical layer are flat on deep layers, vary in shape.
Basement Membrane
Thin exteacellular layer that functions as a point of attachment & support for the overlying epithelial tissue.
Cuboidal Epithelium
Single layer of cube shaped cells.
Found in thyroid gland, kidneys, functions of secretion & absorption.
Simple Epithelium
Single layer of cells, functions in diffusion, osmosis, filtration, secretion, and absorption.
Characteristics of Epithelial Tissue
Closely packed cells held together tightly by cell junctions, very little intercelluar material between cells.
Arranged in sheets(single or multiple) layers.
Apical surface exposed to a body cavity, lining of an internal organ, or exterior body of a basal surface attached to basment membrane.
Avascular(w/out blood vessels).
Tissue
Group of similar cells that usually have the same embroylogical origin & function together to carry out specialized activites.
1.Epithelial
2.Connective
3.Muscle
4.Nervous
Synoval Membrane
Lines the cavities of freely movable joints.
Hyaline cartilage in knees.
Synovial=Egg like fluid
Mucous Membrane
Lines a body cavity open directly to the exterior.
Line the entire digestive, respiratory, & reproductive tracts.
Mouth, Nose, Trachea, Vagina
Serous Membrane
Internal.
Parietal-Covers wall of the cavity.
Visceral-Covers & attaches to the ORGANS inside cavity.
Pleura-Lining thorasic cavity & covers lungs.
Pericardium-Lining of thr Heart cavity & covers heart.
Peritoneum-Lining abdominal cavity & covers abdominal organs.
Characterisics of Muscle Tissue
Smooth Muscle
In the walls of the hollow internal structures such as blood vessels, airway, stomach, intestines, gallbladder & urninary bladder.
Involuntary, Lack of striations
Contracts like a dishrag(twisting)
Tapered at ends.
Characteristics of Muscle Tissue
Cardiac
Forms most of the wall of the heart
Striations, Involuntary, Intercalated discs.
Characteristics of Muscle Tissue
Skeletal
Skeletal Muscle-Attached to bones of skeleton
Elongated cells(control over them)
Heat production, movement, stability, move substances through body & change size & shape of some organs
Striations, Voluntary, Multiple Nuclei.
