Divide the population into groups of similar individuals called strata, then choose a seperate SRS in each stratum and combine to form a full sample

Cluster Sample

Classify the population into groups of individuals that are located near each other then choose an SRS of cluster

when some groups in the population are left out of the process of choosing the sample

Non-response

when an individual chosen for the sample can't be contacted or refuses to cooperate
