Monoamine oxidase (MAO) inhibitors |
treat depression. These are used less often today because they can produce undesirable side effects and even cause death due to interaction with common foods and other over-the counter medications- dangerous increases in blood pressure |

tardive dyskinesia- |
repetitive, involuntary movements of jaw, tongue, face, and mouth and body tremors resulting from extended use of traditional antipsychotic drugs |

Clozapine |
This is an atypical antipsychotic which do not create tardive dyskinesia. This blocks a different type of dopamine receptor Side effects- weight gain, increased risk of diabetes, reduction of white blood cells |

Prefrontal lobotomy |
consists of severing the connections between the prefrontal lobes and the lower portion of the brain. This procedure often left people with profound changes in personality, often resulting in them being listless or subject to seizures. Also, some patients were reduced to vegetative states- no longer in use |

Electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) |
involves passing an electrical current through a person's brain in order to induce a seizure and is used to treat severe depression |
