Corneal Reflex
type of somatic reflex that is mediated through trigeminal nerve
Reflex arcs
5 components

1.) receptor= site of stimulus
2.) sensory neuron transmits afferent impulses to CNS
3.) integration center= 1 or more neurons in CNS

4.) motor neuron conducts efferent impulses from the integration center to an effector organ

5.) effector muscle fibers/glands respond to impulses by contracting/ secreting
Somatic Reflexes
- reflexes involve stimulation of skeletal muscles by somatic division of NS

ex.) rapid movement of hand from hot object
Spinal Reflexes
-initiated & completed at spinal cord
-occur w.o involvement of higher brain centers
-found in animals w/ destroyed brains and functioning spinal cords
Stretch Reflex
-maintain posture, balance, locomotion

-initiated by tapping tendon, which stimulates muscle tendon is attached to

-causes reflex contraction
** reciprocal inhibition.. cause to relax and prevent from resisting contraction
Structure of a nerve
-Endoneurium
-Perineurium
-Fascicle
-Epineurium
