Functional Region
aka NODAL Region; an area organized around a node or focal point.
Ex. most often used to display information about economic areas. The node could be a shor or a service

aka Universal Time the master reference time for all points on Earth.
Ex. turn clock ahead 1 hour for each 15 eastward from the prime meridian
Globalization
a force or process that involves the entire world and results in making something worldwide in scope.
Ex. McDonald's was spread around and became popular by globalization
Global Positioning System
a system that accurately determines the precise position of something on Earth.
Ex. It is used during the navigation of aircraft to find the plane's precise position
uneven development
the increasing gap in economic conditions between core and peripheral regions as a result of the globalization of the economy
ex. Chicago is battling uneven development (huge contrast between the rich and poor)
agricultural density
the ratio of the number of farmers to the total amount of land suitable for agriculture
ex. there are 10 farmers/ km^2 at some places

a copy that conducts research, operates factories and sells products in many countries, not just where its headquarters or shareholders are located

Longitude
the numbering system used to indicate the location of meridians drawn on globe and measuring distance east and est of the prime meridian

Meridian
An arc drawn on a map between the North and South Poles
Parallel
a circle drawn around the globe parallel to the equator and at right angles to the meridians

Pattern
the geometric or regular arrangement of something in a study
ex. some places are distributed in a geometric pattern, whereas others are distributed irregularly
Physiological Density
the number of people per unit of area arable land which is land suitable for agriculture
ex. 3 people/ unit of land suitable for agriculture
Hearth
the place from which innovation originates. To develop a hearth, a group people must have the ability to achieve the desired idea and economic structures.
Ex. Features of the US and Canada can be traced to hearths in Europe and the middle east
Relocation Diffusion
the spread of a feature or trend through bodily movement of people from one place to another.
Ex. when people move, they carry with them their culture, including language,religion and ethnicity.
