Protestant Reformation
A Christian reform movement led by Martin Luther and John Calvin who objected to the corruption within the Catholic Church and certain doctrines like transubstantiation. The church responded with the Counter Reformation led by the Jesuits. N. Europe (except Ireland) turned Protestant while S. Europe remained Catholic. The Reformation began with posting of 95 Thesis (1517) & ended with the Treaty of Westphalia (1648).
Johann Tetzel
Monk who was commissioned by Pope Leo X to raise money for Church and who was sent through out N. Germany to sell indulgences. Outraged Luther and catalyst of Reformation.
