What are the SSRI's?
Fluoxetine, paroxetine, setraline, citolapram.
Mech of action for SSRI?
serotonic specific reuptake inhibitor
Clinical use for SSRI?
depression, general anxiety disorder, panic disorder, OCD, bulemia, phobias, PTSD
Toxicity for SSRI?
GI distress, sexual dynfunction,

SEROTONIN SYNDROME - hyperthermia, confusin, myoclonus, CV colapse, flushing, diarrhea, seizures. Give cyproheptadine for SS.
SNRI, what are they?
venlafaxine, duloxetine
Mech of actoin for SNRI?
Inhibit serotonin and NE reuptake.
Clinical use for SNRI?
Depression. Venlafaxine also used in GAD and panic disorder.
Toxicity for SNRI?
Increase in BP, stimulant effects, sedation, nausea
What are the TCA's?
-tryptiline, -ipramine, doxepin, amoxapine
Mech of action for TCA?
Bloc reuptake of serotonin and NE
Clinical use for TCA?
Major depression, bedwetting (imipramine), OCD (clomuiprimine), fibromyalgia.
Toxicity for TCA?
Sedation, a1-blocking effects leading to postural hypotension, atropine-like effects (tachy, urinary retention, dry mouth).

Tri-C's: Convulsions, Coma, Cardiotox. also respiratory depression, hyperpyrexia. Use NaHCO3 for CV tox.
MAOI's, what are they?
Tranylcypromine, phenelzine, isocarboxazid, selegiline (MAO-B inhibitor)
Mech of action for MAOI?
non-selective MAO inhibition increases levels of amine neurotransmitters (NE, serootonin, dopamine).
Clinical use for MAOI's?
Atypical depression, anxiety, hypocondriasis.
Toxicity for MAOI's?
Hypertensive crissis (esp when ingesting tyramine (wine, cheese)). CNS stimulation, Don't take with SSRI, TCA, St. John's Wort, meperidine, and dextromethorphan or else you could get SS.
What are the atypical anti depressants?
Bupropion, Mirtazipine, Maprotiline, Tazodone
Toxicity for Bupropion, and other use?
Also used for smoking cessation

stimulant effects (tachy, insomnia), HA, seizure. No sexual side effects (SSRI's have this)
Mech of action for Mirtazapine?
A2-antagonist (increases release of serotonin and NE) and potent 5HT2 and 3 antagonist.
Toxicity for Mirtazapine?
sedation, increased appetite, weight gain, dry mouth.
Trazodone Mech of action and toxicity?
inhibits serotonin reuptake. IUsed for insomnia, and antidepressant at high levels.

Toxicity is sedation, nausea, priaprism, postural hypotension.
