what are ribosomes?
hold RNA and proteins and are responsible for protein synthesis
what is the golgi apparatus?
synthesizes, packages, and delivers molecules through secretory vesicles
what is the mitochondria?
supplies the cell's energy source (ATP)
what are the lysosomes?
decompose molecules (like garbage disposal)
what is the centrosome/centrioles?
responsible for the division of animal cells

(only found in animal cells)
what is the nucleus?
contains DNA and the nucleolus
what is the cell membrane?
contains lipids and proteins (lipid bilayer)
protects the cell through selective permeability
what is the nucleolus?
contains ribosomes
what is the cytoplasm?
gel-like substance that holds all of the organelles
what are peroxisomes?
protects the cell form its own production of toxic hydrogen peroxide
what are the secretory vesicles?
contains molecules from the golgi and that are delivered to the cell membrane for release
what is the vacuole?
stores nutrients and waste products
what is the smooth endoplasmic reticulum?
responsible for synthesis of lipids, synthesis of hormones and breakdown of toxins in the liver
what is the rough endoplasmic reticulum?
proteins synthesized in ribosomes are collected in rough endoplasmic reticulum for transport
what is the cytoskeleton?
maintains cells shape and structure
