ACUTE Blood Loss?
-immed hemodilution (normocytic normochromic)
-incr Leukocytosis (early)
-incr EPO
-reticulocytosis (after 5-7 days)
-reticulocytes = polychromatic macrocytes
-accompanied Thrombocytosis
What are some causes of anemia d/t CHRONIC BLOOS LOSS?
GI Tract Lesions;
-ulcers, neoplasms, Meckels Divert, PUD, worms
GYN disturbances;
-menorrhagia, leiomyomas
What is a typical cause resulting in Anemia d/t Acute Blood Loss?
Trauma
Heriditary Spherocytosis (presents as a Chronic HA)
• AD
• Ankyrin = most common defect
• Spherocytes destroyed in spleen (splenomegaly) = Extravascular hemolysis
• Unconjugated bilirubin  Jaundice
• Aplastic crisis
• Confirm Dx: Osmotic fragility test
