Macrocytic anemia - caused by deficiency or impaired utilization of vitamin B12 and/or folate

Pernicious anemia

A severe megaloblastic anemia caused by malabsorption of vit B12 due to the absence of intrinsic factor (IF)

most common causes: iron deficiency anemia & thalassemia

Imnature RBCs; made in the bone marrow and, about 2 days after they form, they develop into mature RBCs
