When and where was Jackson Born?

He was born on March 15, 1767 in Waxhawks on the border of North and South Carolina.

Explain his role in the American Revolution. What happened to him?

At age 13 Jackson took part in the Revolutionary war. He was taken prisoner by the British and when one of the British officers demanded that they clean his boots, Jackson refused. The officer hit him with the dull side of his saber, leaving a scar for the rest of his life. After war Jackson studied law and became a prosecuter.

What was his role in 1812?

Jackson gained national fame through his role in the war of 1812, where he won decisive victories over the Indians and then over the main British invasion army at the Battle of New Orleans.

Explain "Corrupt Bargain"...

When the 1824 election ended without any candidate receiving a majority in the electoral college, the House of Representatives awarded the election to John Quincy Adams. Andrew Jackson's outraged supporters claimed that a corrupt bargain had been struck where by Henry Clay supported Adams in the house vote in return for the office of secretary of state.

What helped him win the 1828 election?

Jackson won the 1828 election due to the fact that white males, 21 or older who did not own property could now vote as well do to the Jacksonian.

What is the 'Spoils system?'

The spoils system is the practice of a successful political party giving public office to its supporters.

Explain the Indian Removal Act

The indian removal act was signed into law by Andrew Jackson on May 28, 1830 authorizing the president to grant unsettled lands west of the mississippi in exchange for Indian lands within existing state borders.

What was Worcester v. Georgia?

In the court case Worcester v. Georgia, the u.s. supreme court held in 1832 that the Cherokee Indians constituted a nation holding distinct sovereign powers. Although the decision became the foundation of the principle of tribal sovereignity the 20th century. it did not protect the Cherokees from being removed from their ancestral homeland in the South East.

Explain trail of tears:

The trail of tears (1838-1839) was caused by Andrew Jackson's Indian Removal policy. The Cherokee nation was forced to give up their land east of the Mississippi river and to migrate to an area in present day Oklahoma.

What was the Nullification Crisis?

The nullification crisis arose in the early 1830's when leaders of South Carolina advanced the idea that a state did not have to follow a federal law and could affect "nullify the law"
