King included them in COJ as counselors, officials and treasurers also gradually absorbed muslim military technology and government ideas, written language, curreny, business methods. Spread across the empire and influenced different tribes through for ex. trade. Conclusion; Ghana is a kingdom of two different cultures that live in peace (co-exist) -some people adopted and embraced islam but - The Soninke people continued to follow their own traditional religions. |

The king ecavts the right of one dinar of gold on each donkey load of salt that enters his country and two dinars of gold on each load of salt that goes out. A load of copper carriers duty of five miqals and load of merchandise ten mitqals.
Best gold in country; from Wangara, eighteen days from capital city. Nuggets found in all mines of the empire are reserved for the king and only dust left for the people; without this precaution the people would accumulate gold until it had lost its value. Economic level of the people; probably rich since they are good at trade; king is rich. -Since king is "just and righteous"he would probably not allow the people to be poor and hungry. |

2. Announced the opening of the market by the beating of their drums then retreated into town to await the arrival of the merchants. 3. Traders from Wangara sailed up the river with gold and put down whatever they thought was a good value with the goods and retreated to their sailing banks on the river. 4.Arab traders returned: Satisfied; beat the drums and Wangaras came back to take the goods. Unsatisfied; waited for them to come back and add more gold. |

Population-15,000 Two towns lying in a plain. One town inhabited by Muslims. Around the town are wells of sweet water from which they drink and near which they grow veggies. Town in which the king lives is 6 miles from the Muslim one. The land between is covered in houses. The king has a palace and a number of dome-shaped dwellings. Surrounded by wal. In the king's town, not far from the court of justice is a mosque. |
